Paper or plastic?

Here at our house I am committed to using as little plastic as possible because it can't be broken down, and most of the plastic we use in and around our homes is not easily recycled
(ie: put in our blue bin.) So I have begun to replace all of our plastic containers with glass. I save the bags from bread, tortillas, produce and cereal for reuse. Most of the produce I buy, I do not bag because I have enough saved up at home to use.  I also have cloth bags to use for apples, potatoes, oranges or anything else you might be buying in large quantities.
And all the food we buy in plastic, mostly dairy, I reuse the containers for a while before recycling them.
I try to use waxed paper instead of plastic wrap or plastic bags for lunches and storage in the refrigerator.  Or I reuse those plastic tubs from sour cream, yogurt or the like to send to school or store things in, since we can't really send glass stuff to school.
When I do need a bag and there is a choice, I go with paper or the reusable bag I bring with me. I believe paper to be a better choice because the source is renewable, natural and compostable.
I challenge you to refuse plastic and look around for reusable, compostable, biodegradable solutions to plastic in your home as well.
